Training and career at KOMOS: Why practical experience is the best way to start a career
July 2, 2026
Munich, July 1st, 2026 – Those seeking an apprenticeship or a career start after graduation at KOMOS benefit from a company that works closely with universities. A recent example: KOMOS was invited to the Open Campus Event and subsequent Summer Fest of the Hochschule der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (HDBW) gGmbH on the HDBW campus (Konrad-Zuse-Platz 8, Munich). The company was represented by Doreen Becker, People & Culture Manager at KOMOS, together with colleague Elias Weise, who is also studying at HDBW – a direct example of how study and professional experience combine at KOMOS.
The HDBW had invited to a program featuring moderated dialogues in three key areas: training & further education, AI & digitalization, and „Business Bridge“ – a new format that aims to strengthen strategic partnerships between academia and industry and promote joint practical projects. For KOMOS as an employer, one question was central: How does a university prepare young people specifically for entry into the workforce in a digitally transformed industrial company?
What makes training at KOMOS special: Practice first, tool afterwards
For KOMOS as an employer, this question is not academic. All processes are fully digitized via a central ERP system that is already actively supported by AI today. So, anyone starting an apprenticeship at KOMOS or joining as a graduate works from the very beginning on real, digitized systems – not simulations. Precisely because of this deep digital integration, KOMOS specifically seeks to build close ties with universities such as HDBW: not to import AI knowledge, but to connect it with lived-in entrepreneurial practice.
„We offer real-world practice and seek, in return, lateral perspectives and fresh impulses,“ said Doreen Becker about the goal of the cooperation. The approach for career start at KOMOS: First comes experience with real systems and machines, then the AI knowledge is applied as a tool – not the other way around.
Three insights for career starters
From the discussions and impulses of the day, the KOMOS team draws three key observations for its own training and career development efforts:
- Understanding requires questions. An AI provides answers, but it does not ask questions to understand. Curiosity, empathy, and active listening remain human competencies that keep corporate culture and communication alive – especially in the nuances that no algorithm can capture. KOMOS specifically nurtures these competencies in all apprentices and new employees.
- Order decides. Social, methodological and professional competencies arise from genuine experience with the system and machine – not just from the tool itself. This is exactly what shapes the training at KOMOS.
- Practice opens its doors. Without practical experience, many applications in AI-related companies are quickly rejected. KOMOS wants to give young graduates the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to fully digitized, real processes – a clear advantage for anyone who wants to start a career at KOMOS.
A atmospheric setting
The day was musically accompanied by a live concert by Professor Schlick’s band, before the event concluded with a shared buffet. KOMOS thanks HDBW for the open and inspiring exchange and looks forward to a possible further collaboration within the framework of the Business Bridge.
