Digitalization is a matter for the boss – and a matter for the team

Why energy efficiency does not arise in the server room but rather in the interplay between management and production

In industry, digitalization is often launched technically: a new energy management system, additional sensors, another dashboard.

But the crucial question is not: Which software do we use? But rather: How will people work with this information in the future?

Because as soon as energy data become transparent, not only does the numerical basis change – but also the daily work in production.

What we learned at KOMOS

As a manufacturing company, we know:

  • Data only change when they are understood.

  • Transparency only works if it is accepted.

  • Efficiency only arises when employees are involved.

Energy metrics belong in the management round. But they also belong on the shopfloor. Digitalization therefore means for us:

  • Involving employees early on

  • Making connections understandable

  • Developing improvements together

  • Not just assigning responsibility but also enabling it

Because anyone who works on machines on a daily basis often detects deviations sooner than any system.

Technology × Processes × Culture × People

Sustainable energy efficiency does not come from technology alone. It is created through the interplay of:

Technology creates transparency x Processes create bindingness x Culture creates trust.x People create improvement.

If one of these factors is missing, digitalization remains theoretical.

Digitalization as a shared task

Digitalization is not an IT project. It is not an isolated energy project. And it is not an „top-down“ measure. It is a shared development task of the entire company.

Leadership defines the vision. Organization creates the structure. Employees bring experience, practical knowledge, and ideas for improvement. Only then does real transformation occur.

Exchange at the KEDi Roadshow

On March 17, 2026 KOMOS is part of the KEDi Roadshow in Erfurt. In the World Café we will design the theme table „Digitalization initiative in the company“ We are participating in and contributing to the opening talk of the event. That’s where we discuss exactly this question:

How can digitalization be implemented in such a way that leadership, organization, and employees work together to achieve results?

Our conviction: Industry does not become digital because systems are installed. Industry becomes digital when people are empowered.
